Shalom, Now we can see what the action of the left wingers in Labor and Kadima are going to do. It behooves the Israelis to take military action during this period of transition of the Pal's parliament. It is also evident that the only way Israelis are going to feel safe is to take back Gaza, destroy the ALL of the terrorists, occupy Gaza, move the surviving terrorists and their families into Egypt and annexing this area. The northern part of the Shomron must evacuated of Pals to the south, the areas close to Israel annexed, the rest of the West Bank placed under control of the IDF. Jerusalem must be cleared of all Arabs that do not pledge loyalty to Israel (actually all of Israel), make Israel a Jewish State but not a Theocracy. The area north of the border occupied by Hizzbollah creates a whole different problem since they are attached to Syria. Now Syria has all of the WMDs from Iraq such as Biological and nerve gases. Hopefully, there will be a consitorium of Israel and NATO to commence action to defeat Syria, remove the WMDs, conduct regime change in Syria and consider giving the Kurds their own country. This puts a lot on the plate, however, there is no better time than now. It is my opinion that there is a little time left to take action against Iran in so far as they have yet to be able fit a Nueclear device on a missle, but we can not wait too long. Now a message to the Israeli Government. It's time for you to face realities. You can not wish for peace and get it. It must be earned. You can not futher appeasement, give concessions of land without some return and only when there is a real peace, nor should politics play a part in saving our homeland. Unity, unity, unity. Go to war? ...gosh, and occupy some land for how long and at what cost in lives and money? Here is what a piece in Slate says (in part): And as for Israeli politics, the new Kadima Party, formed by Ariel Sharon and now headed by his successor Ehud Olmert, indirectly benefited from yesterday's vote. Benjamin Netanyahu, the right-wing leader of the Likud Party, started to attack Olmert even before the Palestinian results were publicized, claiming that Hamas' success was the result of the Israeli disengagement from Gaza. Netanyahu will probably win some votes with this argument, but it's hard to project a Likud victory over a party that preaches unilateralism. Olmert will have the upper hand since he can say: We told you there was no partner for peace; we told you that now is not the right time for a negotiated settlement; we told you we need to decide for ourselves what to do—so let's keep at it. The world will have to encourage him and give him all the help he needs. The only alternative is war. Posted by: freddie on January 26, 2006 05:24 PM
War now or war later. Posted by: Ted Belman on January 26, 2006 05:40 PM
I think all out war is coming, and this is what Sharon was laying the groundwork for. I don't know how much credible information the US/Israel has on Iran having nukes, but my guess is that in not too many months, Iran will have to be 'dealt with' and that will be the trigger for yet another Arab/Israeli war, one in which the Arabs will keep their record intact. It will be more of a Pali war as Egypt and Jordan won't want a part in it and Syria is in no fit state to do much. "War now or war later" Yeah, get it over with now, later will be so much worse. I like Ed D's plan, I've no doubt the IDF have something like it in mind. If some of my few remaining lefty friends could see what I've written here, they'd think I'm totally unhinged now, but I'd tell them, think Hitler, 1938. Both Ted & ligneus are both stating the obvious as sad as it must seem, that War is an inevitability. Israeli government is in a vacuum. Israel now needs good leadership & needs to ensure that no men or weapons are smuggled to the Palestinian settlements in the West Bank, and finish the defensive barrier speedily to protect the urban hinter-land. The Iranian threat is not going to go away, and America needs to work closely with Israel to counter this threat. America needs to recognise that the EU doesn't take the War on Terror seriously & needs to be prepared for all eventualities. Posted by: Leonard on January 27, 2006 02:45 PM Post a comment |
Another reason to destroy Hamas
Iran hails Hamas victory AFP
Iran has congratulated the Islamist Palestinian group Hamas for its election victory and praised voters for choosing "to continue the struggle and resistance against occupation".
Hamid Reza Asefi, the foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement on Thursday faxed to journalists:"The Islamic republic of Iran congratulates Hamas and all the Palestinian soldiers and the great Islamic people."
Iran and Hamas are allies and declared in December that they represented a "united front" against Israel. "The Palestinians have voted for the resistance and have shown their loyalty," Asefi said.
"The result of these elections will reinforce the unity of the Palestinian people in defending their rights. The massive participation of the Palestinians shows their will to continue the struggle and resistance against occupation."
Although Iran is a vocal supporter of Hamas - as well as the Palestinian resitance group Islamic Jihad and the Lebanese Shia movement Hizb Allah - the clerical regime denies allegations it finances these groups.
Allies
But on 15 December, Khaled Meshaal, the Hamas political chief said during a visit to the Iranian capital that his group would step up attacks against Israel if the Jewish state took military action against Iran over its disputed nuclear programme.
"Just as Islamic Iran defends the rights of the Palestinians, we defend the rights of Islamic Iran. We are part of a united front against the enemies of Islam," Meshaal said during the visit.
"Each member of this front defends itself with its own means in its region. We carry the battle in Palestine. If Israel launches an attack against Iran, we will expand the battlefield in Palestine," he said.
Anti-occupation
"We are part of a united front, and if one member of this front is attacked it is our duty to support them," he added, also praising Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian President, for his "courageous" anti-Israeli stance.
Since sweeping to power in a shock election win last June, Ahmadinejad has embarked on an all-out verbal assault against Israel.
He has labelled the Jewish state as a "tumour" that should be "wiped off the map" or moved as far away as Alaska, and has branded the Holocaust a "myth".
