Former Israeli Settlers Come to Pray for Sharon

Former Israeli Settlers Come to Pray for Sharon

We've been quite harsh on Jews who are claiming to see in Israel's tragedy and PM Sharon's grief some sign of divine mandate, as have some other bloggers. You should know that those lunatics are not representative of even the Israel far-right:

Avi Farhan, who was evacuated from the Elei Sinai settlement during the disengagement last summer, has arrived at the Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital to express his support in the prime minister's family and wish Sharon a speedy recovery. "We all pray he will return to being the same Arik, the same bulldozer," Farhan said. "We need to separate between the personal relation to Arik Sharon, and the pain we have experienced as a result of the pullout," he said. (Miri Chason)
Quite right.

Some honest dialogue on a philosophical topic....

I'll be brutally honest, I have a terribly difficult time being upset about his condition. As a person, I sympathize for him and hope that he can at least recover somewhat. As a political figure? The truth is that I'm glad he's gone. I'll confess, when I heard the news initially, I was happy about it. I have an internal struggle over it - how to feel about it. Does that make me a bad person, or a "lunatic"?

I really don't think so. I don't celebrate anyone's death, not even the enemy. That said, it is not incumbent on me to view anyone's death or impairment as a great tragedy either. I hope that his merits outweigh his sins and that I can meet him in olam haba so that I can debate politics with him. But no amount of trying on my part can bring me to shed a tear for him now. It brings to mind Shaul Hamelech - he is regarded as a tzaddik, but the power he had as a king warped him and towards the end of his days he even slaughtered a whole city of cohainim. Do you think anyone was truly mournful of his passing? Doubtful.

Honor his memory for achievements past and do your best to forget his most recent evils. This is my recommendation, for it is the best that I can achieve.

I resent being called a Lunatic. I do wish this monster harm, and hope that his death is long and painful one Sharon lost his values and way as a Jew who has made the committment to live in God's Hol;y Land. The mere fact that he could side with an enemy that has sworn to destroy every living Jewish entity and even destroy the dead buried in cemetariesdeserves to die himself in an unglorious manner.

There is a special Spirit that hovers over Israel. A guiding force that protects the Jewish People from all forms of harm. While this is so, the Jews themselves have to help this force to succeed. It works two ways. Sharon lost his way and his vision a long time ago. What we have now is a corrupt man within a corrupt family. God has had enough of this mans antics and has said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

I absolutely agree. People are focusing soley on the Gaza expulsion and therefore brush it off as something in the past. However, we must realize that Sharon was in the initial stages of planning a deportation from half of Israel which would have relagated the country to the Aushwitz borders. Israel would have been surrounded on all sides by the enemy and every inch of the country would have been with in rocket range, and I can assure you these rockets would have been much bigger (due to imports) than the Quassams. This simply could not have been allowed to take place.

Avi Farhan was actually expelled from his home for the 3rd time --- once by the Arabs, the 2nd time by Begin & Sharon when Yamit was evacuated after the peace deal with Egypt, and now again by Sharon. If there was anybody for whom the use of hysterical language like "moster" would have been forgivable it would be him. His restraint (during the evacuation and now) speaks volumes when contrasted with what I read in the comments above.

Sharon as defense minister caused and executed my evacuation from Yamit. From that point on neither Begin, Sharon,or Likud would garner my support. It in many ways destroyed my life but I won`t get into that. I knew Avi Farchan very well while in Yamit and his actions are not surprizing in the least Avi is one of the most nieve people I have ever met but is at heart no more no less than little guy with big political aspirations ergo he pops up now and then, just to let us know he is still around.I had a kiosk not far from kings square,50 meters, the night Rabin died and when I heard the news I was jumping for joy, most people passing by were ready to lynch me b ut instead bought memorial candles from me at inflated prices, I sold that month about 2000 memorial candles ranging in price from 2.5 to 5 shekles. Laughing all the way to the bank as they say. Now we have Sharon situation , whose family is blaming Livnat and HaHaretz for causing Sharons condition to deteriate. And you can call me a lunatic? That I regard anyone whose policies when implemented threaten the lives of my family, place them in extreme perile,to expect me to jump for joy and excuse this rationale being for helping my enimies to kill me and my family. I expect the Govt. of Israel to protect me no matter what the cost. If Israeli security forces can`t do the job somebody should ask the pertinate questions: WHY NOT?If Political and military leaders say we can`t win they should be replaced at the very least with those who say can do.
