ISM to recruit "martyrs" at Georgetown University?

ISM to recruit "martyrs" at Georgetown University?

by Bill Levinson

It is now ON RECORD that Georgetown's administration has been made aware of the following information through an E-mail sent today.

To: president "at" georgetown.edu (President DeGioia), gucomm "at" georgetown.edu (Georgetown Communications) also (Public Safety, Risk Management, and Dr. Erik Smulson, requesting it to be forwarded to Dr. Porterfield)

Gentlemen,

It has just come to my attention that one of the speakers/ leaders of the Palestine Solidarity Movement's divestment conference at Georgetown, Nadeem Muaddi, has published material that calls for Christians to become "martyrs" for the Palestinian cause. His use of the phrase "whatever the cost" suggests that the actions involved may indeed cost the lives of the so-called "martyrs" he is recruiting, although this does not necessarily require them to commit a violent felony like suicide bombing; standing in front of an armored bulldozer (as they encouraged Rachel Corrie to do) also would work. He adds, by the way,

"If this “cost” so happens to be death, then one will have become a martyr."

You may want to run his statements by an attorney who is qualified to interpret the statement, "it’s about time more Christians step forward and offer themselves up as martyrs for a true and just resolution to the Palestinian Issue" in the context of the rest of Mr. Muaddi's article to determine exactly what he is soliciting his audience to do.

July. 30. 2005 A Call for Christian Martyrdom by Nadeem Muaddi
(Only an excerpt appears here, the entire article was sent to Georgetown's administrators)

But if Christians are indeed required to follow Christ’s example by bearing witness to the virtues of peace, truth, love, and justice – “whatever the cost” – then why have millions of Christians either remained silent or avoided turning their words into deeds on the issue of Palestinian suffering?

Bishop Younan faithfully claims that “Martyria is the Via Dolorosa with resurrection”. If this interpretation of “a theology of martyria” is correct, then it’s about time more Christians step forward and offer themselves up as martyrs for a true and just resolution to the
Palestinian Issue.

NOTE: the following message has been forwarded to Israpundit, Georgetown University: President, Office of Public Affairs, Assistant Vice President for Communications, Communications Dept., Dept. of Public Saftey, Office of Risk Management, as well as hundreds of others we will see why it is that your comments hold no legitimacy. I'll see you in court.

Bill Levinson,

I am writing to inform you that I have hired an attorney to begin the necessary steps needed to take legal action against you for libel – otherwise known as written defamation.

Your perverse interpretation of my book review, “A Call for Christian Martyrdom” (Jerusalemites.org & RamallahOnline.com 07/30/05), and subsequent smearing of my name and character to various members of Georgetown University’s administration:

• John J DeGioia, University President
• Dr. Daniel Porterfield, Office of Public Affairs
• Dr. Erik Smulson, Assistant Vice President for Communications
• The Georgetown University Communications Dept.
• The Georgetown University Dept. of Public Safety
• The Georgetown Office of Risk Management

have left me little choice but to take such measures against you. Although the review that I have published explicitly states my personal position against the use of “suicide bombing” as a tactic of resistance, you have taken it upon yourself to publish (source: Israpundit “ISM to recruit ‘martyrs at Georgetown University?” 01/09/06) comments about me that would lead many to believe otherwise.

Your actions are not only morally reprehensible, but illegal. You will be hearing from my attorney soon.

Sincerely,

Nadeem Muaddi
Spokesperson/Organizer
Palestine Solidarity Movement

Is this guy for real? Bill, what level of education have you reached? Read the guy's article; nowhere can you infer that he's trying to recruit Christian martyrs at this conference. That's just assinine to suggest that, and Israpundit how dare you post such garbage.

I honestly doubt that Chaim is real. It's probably Muuadi under a Jewish name. Levinson's article hit the nail on the head, though. The dictionary defines "martyr" as "To make a martyr of, especially to put to death for devotion to religious beliefs."

The PLO has been trying to recruit more Christian suicide bombers among the Palestinian Arabs. An email written by one of the ISM's activists like Muaddi, titled "A Christian for Hamas" can found here:http://www.arabworldbooks.com/arab/raja.htm .

The author of that missive belongs to the Palestine Solidarity Movement and ISM/Al Awda for which Muaddi, the author of the article Levinson referred to, is the national spokesman.

Mr.Muaddi, the ISM specifically states, "As a solidarity movement, we feel it is not our place to tell the Palestinian people how to resist." You are a spokesman for the Movement and, as such, Mr. Levinson's extrapolation from your article is not hard to grasp. At Ohio State's PSM Conference in 2003 a seminar was held on how to put a good face on suicide bombings: (availabe here: http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=11010).

Am I to assume, based on your threatening letter above, that the national spokesman for the Palestine Solidarity Movement is letting it be known he does not approve of suicide bombings, something the PSM in voting down a resolution to condemn same, showed it is not against? Now that would be newsworthy.

You have no case and a SLAPP suit will subject you as the ISM national spokesman (and your group, to discovery from which you will not emerge unscathed). And Mr. Levinson's interpreation of your article was dead on. The courts take a dim view of their being used for the same type of dissembling the PSM/ISM routinely engages in, saying one thing then endorsing another when it comes to support for terrorist groups. You say you "personally" do not endorse suicide bombings as a "tactic of resistance." What is your position on any terrorism against Israelis, sir? Jsut what "tactics of resistance" are acceptable to you to die as a Christian martyr for the PLO?

Meanwhile, here's a challenge: Ask President De Gioia to run on the Georgetown.edu website the following statement signed by you:

I viurlently condemn any form of resistance that resorts to violence of any kind against the people of Israel. This includes not only suicide bombings, but shootings, knifings, the throwing of stones or anything that can do another human being some harm. I urge the Palestinian Authority and related groups to never use such measures."

In short, Mr. Muaddi, put up or shut up.
