If it were not for the blogs, who would know that this is going on? The Israeli standard media will not give the full story. And they are not likely to be disturbed by it. Consider the virtual silence about the ongoing suffering of the Jewish refugees from Gush Katif and Shomron -- many still without homes, jobs, income, or compensation. How indignant editorials have there been over it? And how many indignant editorials can one expect over the pogrom in Hevron? Especially now that the Jerusalem Post has become Ha'Aretz Lite. Shame, shame, shame on the media. Posted by: A Time To Speak on January 17, 2006 12:47 PM
As much as I support Jews living in Hevron, and all over YeSh, this is not the way in which to wage this war. Nationalistic and Religious Jews living in Yehuda and Shomron will not build support among the majority of Israelis for continued development of Jewish comunities in YeSh by throwing rocks (and other things) at IDF soldiers. Like Yirmiyahu above - I also support the right of Jews to live in Hevron, but cannot help but be unimpressed by those irresponsible individuals who are behind the cynical manipulation of these child protestors by placing them in the middle of a confrontational situation with the Israeli police & IDF in what is presently an extremely dangerous town. Without the presence of Israeli forces the Palestinians would have slaughtered them. Posted by: Leonard on January 17, 2006 06:46 PM Post a comment |
Live Hebron Update
I am here in a closed military zone of Chevron, reporting the violence and even worse, near non-response of adult community to assist the City of The Avot (our Fathers) to avoid military occupation, like occurred just yesterday.
I saw young girl trapped behind riot police/horses alone (3 1/2 years old), she started screaming....I know the parents....she now will not go outside OR leave mothers' side. The mother told me (they live in shuk {market area} under expulsion orders---interview with her on my website now) that when mother cut herself in kitchen and the child saw the blood, the child said that the soldiers must have done this to her.
Does anyone think that this child will not carry distrust and fear for life, effecting marriage and personal growth?
Who reports this? Who is outraged? What compensation is there for the security of a child, who is as holy and cute as the day is long.
And the days are very long here in Israel now...the state is in peril....we must not look for the state to do teshuva (repentence) since relying on miracles is not the Jewish approach.
Writing from a closed military zone, which means the post-Jewish government has done what Arabs & the British alike did, close the Machpela (the Holy Cave of the Patriarchs, burial place of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) to Jewish visitors.
The tears of the Avot (holy patriarchs) are running down the street as the nation is "exiled" from its holy place. Anyone who believes that this is "just the shuk" (just the marketplace area) and that Chevron is not subject to Gush Katif style elimination of Jewish existence simply is not connected to events on the ground.
They won't go for all Chevron prior to March 28th (Israeli elections), but the virtual non-response from adult Israelis and diaspora Jewry (a contradiction of terms post-1948) has sealed the fate of this city in my judgement...
..blessings and prayers..Shlomo in tears
