But they seem to have no problems with Bethlehem being in the hands of Hamas, and with other muslim terrorists taking a crap inside the Church Of the Nativity. The real problem is still with the Israeli leaders (the red-diamond crew) who have no spine and are afraid to cut such nonsense at the root, and proclaim soveregnty over their own country. Is Israel simply a lackey of the USA? Posted by: Rajiv Singh on January 4, 2006 03:44 PM
Funny, I don't think that the Vatican is being well taken care of by the Catholic Church. They should turn it over to the Jews who are experts at handling Holy sites. Posted by: Mike on January 4, 2006 05:02 PM
Somebody's been reading Tom Clancy again. As you know, his omnitalented and thoroughly equipped -- all specs of all equipment always given -- hero Jack Ryan brokered a deal where the Vatican was given control of Jerusalem. Naturally peace was assured throughout all the Middle East. Posted by: Joseph T Major on January 4, 2006 05:18 PM
The Vatican should be asked to remind us what, if anything, it did to make Jerusalem accessible to people of all religious faiths. I think we will see a very blank space; Israeli blood paid for that access. "How many regiments has the Pope?" Posted by: Bill Levinson on January 4, 2006 05:32 PM
NEVER, EVER should Jerusalem be controled by any nation or group other than Israel. Furthermore, At this time, Sharon is undergoing surgery and even if he lives, he is out of the government. Olmert has been given the position of PM. He was the person who suggested the Gaza evacuation. The people of Israel must not make the mistake of electing him when the election takes place because he would give the rest of Israel away. Likud MUST again become strong and take control. For the sake of Israel's survival, if war is the only answer, then let it be so, but not under the guidance of General Halutz. Posted by: Ed D on January 4, 2006 06:19 PM
I think that it can be safely said that things are approaching a pt of convergence for Israel not seen since '48. All the "Jew loving" voices queak at the same time in increasing volume, my ears tell me. We can only hope that the Isr leadership will have the foresight for the shape of things to come, and the courage to act accordingly, otherwise Isr and all the Jews whereever they are will be in big s... . I simply don't understand what more should happen and/or said against Israel that will shake its leaders and bake them to perfection for its true defense, physical as well as spiritual. Any other country can do whatever it sees fit to protect itself and its citizens, but Israel and the Jews. Time to tell it as it is and to act, or even better, only act. Why has the Vatican chosen now to again publicly state its demand for Jerusalem to be made an international city? Probably it fears that Israel is about to unilaterally annex East Jerusalem and declare all of Jerusalem Israel's capitol. The Vatican in 1967 immediately following the 6 day war with Israel capturing East Jerusalem and the vatican fearing Israel may annex East Jerusalem and unify all of Jerusalem as the Israeli capitol in fulfillment of a dream prayed for over almost 2 millennia, called for internationalizing Jerusalem and taking it from the Jews. Such call was not made on Israel and Jordan when Jordan controlled East Jerusalem. This call by the Vatican now is more than just arrogant and insensitive. It discloses once again how rife anti-Semitism is within the halls of the Vatican and the minds of its clergy, from the Pope on down. The Muslims don't want Jews to have Israel. The Vatican doesn't want Jews to have their cherished Jerusalem. Both religions inspire such thinking. There is a pattern there that is not at all pretty. If the Vatican honestly does not see its call for the internationalization of Jerusalem as being anti-Semitic, it appears anti-semitism has become an integral part of church doctrine. Like church doctrine that the Vatican contends speaks to absolute truth, those that utter such doctrine see their motives as absolutely pure. The Vatican, whether it is in denial or not of its Jew hatred which it alone is responsible for creating and then indoctrinating its faithful with over the centuries, is no friend of the Jews and of Israel. Israel should not be bashful about telling the Vatican where it can go. Besides, that was the direction that all the Vatican anti-semites were headed anyway to join with all their predecessors and colleagues whose souls have already moved on to the place they so richly deserve to live out eternity. How about this compromise. The Vatican can be be head of a board of Christian sects to run Jerusalem. Israel has to take over all the other Jewish and Christian sites in the area, and the Muslims, well, we'll let them take care of Mecca and Medina. If the Muslims complain we'll swap them Jerusalem for Mecca!! Posted by: kuhnkat on January 5, 2006 12:17 AM
Now that I've gotten my dumbaleck out, have you considered how bad it looks to the rest of the world that Israel allows the Muslims to have control of the Temple Mount and the DESTRUCTION of priceless artifacts from the Jewish and Christian history?? I just read another story of the Archaeologists sifting the refuse heaps that were excavated from the Mount where the Muslims built an underground Mosque. It is amazingly rich with history!! Of course, they claim half the debris that was excavated was dumped where they do not have access. They also claim that the digging was very destructive of the material. All this while the Muslims claim that there was nothing there and take no care with their construction. As to Bill Narveys comment, we are more afraid that the Appeasers in the Israeli gubmint is going to cede MORE of Jerusalem to the slime for destruction!! And Bill Levinson, what kind of access does the world have to the Mount?? Can we openly pray there? Can we take our Books with us? For that matter, what kind of access do YOU have?? The last time Sharon went there it was used as an excuse to restart the Intifada. Mike, yeah, experts at handling Holy Sites. And when the Islamofascists decide to hole up in the next one (you know, like Bethlehem) you can leave them in there to destroy it too!! Sorry guys, the record of the last few years of keeping sites free and in good condition does not look good to the outside. I would suggest that Israel needs to put a little more effort into showing what happens to Christian and Jewish Religious and Historical Sites that are going to be under the authority of the Islamofascists after the Roadmap or whatever the current appeasement plan is called (more pictures of the tomb that was defaced by the animals). The Vatican is probably making the call from the point of view that the Islamofascists could have the Mount wholly under their control in a year or two and by having it under their jurisdiction it would be open to all. Of course, I am a leeeeetle unclear how they are going to protect it from the slime simply taking it over when they feel like it... Posted by: kuhnkat on January 5, 2006 12:37 AM

Uh Bill (#8), Israel has already annexed "East" Jerusalem, and it has already made it the Israeli capital. It's just that the "Jews" who run Israel don't behave as if they have a united capitol. And yes, Israel has been LOUSY at protecting the holy sites. Of course, the evil & hypocrtical Vatican has facilitated Muslim control and thus destruction by Muslims, so it's a hoot that now the Vatican wants to take over security (with its handful of Swiss Guards no doubt). Dear Pope Benedict, Go to hell. Sincerely, Posted by: ShyGuy on January 5, 2006 04:53 AM
SK, Thank you for correcting my mis-speak, but there are problems with Israel's annexation of East Jerusalem in 1967. First, immediately following the 6 day war, the Israeli government, in an effort to kick start peace discussions, granted much authority to the Muslim Waqf Trust over the Temple Mount. As you know, the Waqf Trust has had the authority to do excavations unhindered by Israel and in the process it has been learned that Trust has failed to note or preserve archeological finds that demonstrate the Jews historical presence there. In spite of the Waqf Trust's actions, known for a great many years, Israel has failed to take any steps to re-assert its exclusive authority over the temple mount or constrain the authority of the Waqf Trust to ensure that Trust can no longer destroy archeological proofs of Israel's presence on the Temple mount. Secondly, the world has not accepted that the Israeli annexation of East Jerusalem to unify Jerusalem is lawful and many, if not all have refused to establish their embassies in Jerusalem. The world prefers the matter of the lawfulness of annexation to await final status negotiations. Canada has just this past year taken the further step to recall all passports it issued to persons which recorded Jerusalem as the place of birth and to reissue those passports recording the place of birth as anywhere but Jerusalem. Finally, Israel itself has entered into agreements that leave the status of Jerusalem to final status negotiations. Even if Israel will under no circumstances agree to dividing Jerusalem again and maintain that its annexation is lawful and for all time, by agreeing to leave that issue for final status negotiations, it thereby undermines its unilateral action of unifying Jerusalem back in 1967. Vatican muscling in on Jerusalem
Says Jews cannot be trusted with ownership of their ancient capital
By Stan Goodenough, JNewswire
The Roman Catholic Church says the Jewish state cannot be trusted to exercise control over the city of Jerusalem – ancient and eternal capital of the people of Israel.
In a statement whose arrogance and contempt he seemingly could not see, the Vatican’s legal advisor in Israel, David Jaeger, told an international conference in Haifa Tuesday that Jerusalem was too important a city to leave in the hands of either “Palestinians” or Jews.
Jaeger’s view was that the status of Jerusalem required the approval of the international community as a whole.
Ironically the Vatican, which claims to be spiritual home to one billion of the world’s Christians, rejects the biblical stipulation granting everlasting possession of ancient Canaan, inclusive of Jerusalem, to the Jewish people.
Since 1947 it has sought to have Jerusalem internationalized, confident that with Rome’s massive global constituency the pope will be able to exercise substantial control over the city.
Jaeger is historically on solid ground when he says the Palestinian Arabs should have no say over Jerusalem. The city has never been an Arab capital and the “Palestinians” have no historic or national rights to it (or to any other part of Israel’s biblical homeland).
The Jews, by contrast, have venerated the city as their holiest site for over 3000 years. Israel is the only nation that has ever had Jerusalem as its capital. During centuries of exile, Jews everywhere prayed daily to return to Jerusalem in order to be able to once again worship their God in this place.
Jerusalem is described in the New Testament as the “City of the great King,” referring to Jesus of Nazareth who also bears the title King of the Jews. The book of Revelation, foretelling Jesus’ return to Jerusalem, calls Him the Lion of the Tribe of Judah – i.e. He remains Jewish.
In recent history, it has only been while under Jewish administration that Jerusalem has flourished and that protected access to all of its holy places (including Christian and Muslim sites) has been guaranteed.
Between 1949 and 1967, when the Arab kingdom of Jordan occupied the eastern part of the city, the rights of Jews and Christians to visit their holy places was restricted, sometimes denied. The Jewish Quarter of the Old City was left to rot, its synagogues sacked and burned.
Despite this, the Vatican believes it should have a say that could deny the right of the Jewish people to keep their beloved capital in their hands.
