Amona

My one-way correspondence with the Israeli ambassador to Canada is given below.

Date: Thu, 2 Feb 2006 15:47:13 -0500 (EST)
From: "Joseph Alexander Norland"
Subject: Amona
To: info@ottawa.mfa.gov.il, ottawa@israel.org

To: Ambassador Baker
Embassy of Israel, Ottawa

Dear Ambassador Baker,

I am writing to you to request that you convey the following comments to your government.

Like millions of others, I watched the video clips showing the assault of the Israeli police and army on the Jews of Amona. The clips and the injuries sustained by the unarmed civilians (including three members of the Israeli parliament) leave no doubt that the people were assaulted by storm troopers, bent on inflicting severe injury. They succeeded. Words fail me to describe how utterly disgusted I feel about the current GOI.

On a more global scale, the GOI is now perceived as one that acts like a poodle when it comes to its enemies - terrorists, the EU, etc - and acts like a blood-thirsty Rottweiler when it comes to Zionist pioneers. You cannot get more contemptible than that. Additionally, because the GOI is clearly committing suicide by stages, Israel is perceived by friend and foe alike as a "weak horse", one that caves in to terrorists.

I am a secular Canadian but I am in touch with several Christian Zionists - the only group in the world that unflinchingly supports the people of Israel. My reading is that because of the reasons I spelled out above, the current GOI is in danger of losing the support of this group, which will leave Israel with no friends anywhere. I, for one, have discontinued my financial support and pro-Israel advocacy, because I no longer believe that the GOI merits my support. In fact, the only way I see to lend a helping hand to the Zionist programme is to divert my efforts in favour of the Zionist pioneers in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, and away from the current GOI. That, I believe, is what non-Jewish supporters of Zionism like Balfour, Meinertzhagen and Wingate would have done, had they been alive today.

Sincerely,

Joseph Alexander Norland

Agree with you Joseph. Who would have believed we will see a fascistic israeli police coming into being. What is next?

I saw a quote that one of the policemen who beat the teen who is in a coma, said to his mother, "I wish he would die." While this Jew on Jew violence did happen during the shoah under the extreme duress of the situation, I cannot see any moral justification for the actions of the Ohlmert junta.

The right wing must unite under one block and stop their in-fighting if they are to save Israel from itself.

Yasher Koach to you Joseph for your clarity of thought and moral strength.

I never thought I would live to see this day, but the Israeli Government is EVIL. And who do we blame? Olmert? Sharon? Hardly. I blame the meddlers from Jimmy Carter in the 70s to Clinton and now Bush and our State Department. What happened to the police? How did it become populated with such savage and corrupt men? When the few Jews that are left in the world go sifting through the rubble of modern Israel, will they call it Masada 2? I don't see how any Zionist-supporting organisation, whether Christian or Jewish, can continue to support Israel. Not unless there is some sort of righteous uprising and those responsible will be held for justice.

Joseph Norland's letter to Ambassador Baker is understandable, given the shock he felt, as a great many have, at the IDF's brutality in carrying out the court order for the removal of the 9 homes in Amona.

I am troubled however that Norland has stated he is discontinuing support for pro-Israel advocacy. There is a fundamental difference between pro-Israel advocacy and pro-Israeli current government advocacy. I presume Norland's intent to support Zionist pioneers in Judea, Samaria and Gaza means to stand by them, at least those in the West Bank as they resist being uprooted from their homes should the GOI choose to pursue policies of further unilateral disengagement, at least in any significant way.

The logistics of disengagement from settlements in Judea and Samaria is immeasurably far more problematical than disengagement from Gaza.

The GOI may choose to follow its disengagement policy by unilaterally drawing Israel's new borders by its construction of the fence, which depending on how committed the GOI is to keeping as much land as possible, would dispossess relatively few Israelis from their homes. That is a policy that may gain Norland's support.

If Norland is advocating that Israel give up not one more square inch of land under its control in Judea and Samaria, while that my be advocating against the GOI's intentions, it is still advocating for Israel.

Like Joseph Norland - I too was shocked by the images of violence in Amona.

Unlike him - I remain dedicated to the people and land of Israel and will not abandon them in their hour of need. When I read the third paragraph of his letter and his unrestrained references to a blood- thirsty rottweiller and his earlier references to stromtroopers - it is not surprising that it is a one way traffic between him and the Embassy of Israel. If he feels so strongly about this issues - I can't really see him giving up his pro-Israel advocacy. Perhaps he should demonstrate a stronger commitment to Israel and make Aliyah and join those on the front line.
