NJDC asked to call out Obama Administration’s glaring omission of Israel from list of terrorism victims

To: David A. Harris, National Jewish Democratic Council
Posted: IsraPundit

Dear Mr. Harris,

The National Jewish Democratic Council has espoused Barack Obama’s purported commitment to the security of Israel (e.g. “Israel Protecting Ashdod with Obama Administration-Funded Iron Dome Battery”). The Zionist Organization of America expressed outrage today, however, that Mr. Obama omitted Israel from a list of nations that are being victimized by terroristic violence.

ZOA cites in turn “White House Issues Guides on Sept. 11 Observances” which quotes the Obama administration as follows:

“As we commemorate the citizens of over 90 countries who perished in the 9/11 attacks, we honor all victims of terrorism, in every nation around the world,” the overseas guidelines state. “We honor and celebrate the resilience of individuals, families, and communities on every continent, whether in New York or Nairobi, Bali or Belfast, Mumbai or Manila, or Lahore or London.”

Note that, despite the most recent litany of mindless terroristic violence against Israel including rockets that had to be intercepted by the Iron Dome system that NJDC mentioned, Israel is not on the list. ZOA added further in its press release that this is not the first time that Mr. Obama has omitted Israel from a list of terror victims.

This is not the first time that President Barack Obama has omitted mention of Israel as a target of terrorist groups: “When running for President, then-Senator Obama said in his Berlin speech, “we can join in a new and global partnership to dismantle the networks that have struck in Madrid and Amman; in London and Bali; in Washington and New York” (‘Obama Speech Transcript: Remarks of Senator Barack Obama (as prepared for delivery) “A World that Stands as One,” Berlin, Germany, July 24, 2008).”

From where we sit, these glaring omissions suggest that Mr. Obama is unwilling to recognize openly or officially that the Palestinians engage in terroristic violence such as the brutal murder of the Fogel family, the ongoing bombardment of Israel with rocket and mortar artillery (with each shot being an act of war under international law), and even attempts to blow up Israeli hospitals with suicide bombs.

To the ZOA’s observations we add our own that Mr. Obama has in fact pressured Israel to reward the Palestinians’ terroristic violence with territorial concessions and has furthermore equated Israeli victims of deliberate terror attacks to Palestinian civilians whom Israel kills unintentionally, and usually because Palestinian terrorists have used them as shields. This is straight from Mr. Obama’s own White House Web site and not from the Tea Party, Republican Jewish Committee, and so on.

Suspicion and hostility has been passed on for generations, and at times it has hardened. But I’m convinced that the majority of Israelis and Palestinians would rather look to the future than be trapped in the past. We see that spirit in the Israeli father whose son was killed by Hamas, who helped start an organization that brought together Israelis and Palestinians who had lost loved ones. That father said, “I gradually realized that the only hope for progress was to recognize the face of the conflict.” We see it in the actions of a Palestinian who lost three daughters to Israeli shells in Gaza. “I have the right to feel angry,” he said. “So many people were expecting me to hate. My answer to them is I shall not hate. Let us hope,” he said, “for tomorrow.”

This statement is intellectually dishonest because Mr. Obama knows full well that Israel aimed the shells not at the Palestinian’s daughters but at Palestinian terrorists, while Hamas deliberately murdered the Israeli’s son. He might as well equate the people who were murdered in the Holocaust to German civilians who were hit by Allied bombs that were aimed at factories and other war-related assets. (We recognize that the Allies also aimed bombs at German civilians, e.g. at Dresden. Air Marshal Sir Arthur Harris pointed out quite rightly however that the Nazis had set the precedent by acting under the assumption that they were going to bomb everybody else and nobody was going to bomb them. This is not however the point here because Israel aims only at combatants and their equipment such as rocket launchers, mortars, bomb factories, and the like, and is not even retaliating against civilian targets as the Allies did.)

If the National Jewish Democratic Council wishes to stand behind its promotion of Mr. Obama as a supporter of Israel (or even as somebody who opposes terrorism in general with more than lip service), it needs to get him to clarify his position on whether Israel is a victim of terrorism.

Bill Levinson

    Great letter Bill.

  3. Perry says:

The NJDC’s sole function today is to disseminate lies in order to prop up a failure of a President who is openly hostile to Israel. The group is as “vile and despicable” as the JINO Chair of the DNC, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

Excellent letter which I expect the NJDC to completely ignore.

  5. Stanley J. revich says:

We always knew where Obama stood in relationship to Israel — unless we were part of the JINO and were deaf, dumb and blind. But then why should we be surprised that there are Jews who are more concerned with the “other” than with their own. The JINO will rue the day they threw their lot in with Obama because the bus he throws them under will crush them like roadkill on the Interstates.

  6. s e clemons says:

the NJDC IS NOTHING but Obama’s circus barkers.

The NDJC is nothing more than Obama’s circus barkers.

  8. Viiit says:

    Excellent letter.
There is one problem with this. The morality of the Jews, is working against them.
Indeed Arabs are aiming rockets at Jewish tows and villages, school buses and even celebrate murder of whole family, and Jews are hitting back and empty buildings, tunnels, and at $100 rocket launchers. Unfortunately this is a non-working strategy.
If every Arab rocket was immediately (within 10 minutes)followed with an Israeli rocket blasting an upper middle class home, or Hamas government building, the rockets would stop falling on both sides.
Of course first, Israel would be condemned, by everyone, but Israel should declare, that “we are tired of your one-sided condemnations. There is only one way to stop our rockets: stop shooting rockets at us. We guarantee you two things: If a rocket fall on us, within 10 minutes a rocket is going to fall on Gaza, and we also guarantee, that as long as no rocket is shot at us, no racket will be shot by us. We have tried everything, and we are tired. We are not going to change this. Go ahead kick us out from the United Nations. Go ahead cut off the United States military assistance. Do what you want, we are not taking this anymore!”

Now such a declaration followed up with determined action, would generate respect.
We could additionally tell Egyptians that if they had the fantasy to get involved in war with us, we are going to bomb Aswan dam. After they see that we are following through on our promise with rockets to Gaza, they will believe our promise to bomb Aswan, or whatever we promised.

Such resolve would earn respect of the whole world including Arabs.

  9. Rick says:

I’d agree with Viiit except that advance warnings usually sabotage the aggressor. Successful surprise attacks work better, and some that worked in the past include Washington’s sneak attack on Trenton, the Japanese attack of Port Arthur, 9/11 and the WTC and the Pentagon come to mind. The Doolittle Raid on Tokyo caught the Japanese off guard. The Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia in 1977 was something of a surprise, as was the Chinese retaliatory invasion of Vietnam in 1979. The Entebbe raid, and the destruction of Iraq’s and Syria’s nuclear equipment all caught enemies off guard. I can’t omit the Peloponnesian War (431-404 B.C.), which took place between the Athenian empire and the Peloponnesian league led by the Spartans, and commenced on 4 April 431 B.C. when the Thebans launched a surprise attack on Plataea, a partner of Athens. The war ended on 25 April 404 B.C. when Athens surrendered. Action is better than warnings.

  10. Tabitha Korol says:

I completely agree…rocket for rocket. I’ve said it for years…but am I reaching Israeli government to give them instructions?

    @ Viiit:

  11. Selma Soss says:

I am for preemptive or surprise attacks. You
can’t talk with these people. This has been
    shown.
