Syrian pilot flies his MiG to Jordan, gets asylum
Four senior army officers defect from Assad regime
Let us hope the Syrian Army does not crack, as the author gleefully anticipates, at least until Russia’s naval spetznaz are embedded in Tartus, so that the country can be neatly parceled out to Alawites, Christians, Sun’a and Kurds — all before the Ilkwan can be transplanted from Cairo to Damascus. Some commenters on Israpundit seem to take seriously notions of democracy among and human rights for the Arab enemies of the Jewish nation. I for one have no such concerns whatsoever about democracy Arabs, which is not at all a suitable cultural fit, and I am motivated solely by the thought of lands that can be taken and held by the Jewish nation, along with the need to develop local allies such as the Kurdish nation and potential big-power allies such as Russia and China.
Say what you want about me. But take note that at least I am consistent.

Arnold, are you suggesting Russia and China will help Israel take more territory? Where do you live? Come down to earth man.
Laura has been consistently correct in her analysis. Muslim democracy is a temporary stage that leads to Islamic law, tyranny of the majority and oppression/marginalization of Christians and others who don’t follow the majority form of Islam. It also means that the true believers in power are more likely attack Israel.
There are no good options in Syria. I have nothing nice to say about Assad, a ruthless thug who is willing do whatever is necessary to keep himself and his sect in power. But Assad is less of a threat than a Muslim Brotherhood dominated Syria working in concert with Egypt, funded by Saudi Arabia and garnering support from the rest of the Sunni Muslim world against Israel. The Alawites have no religious motivation to go to war with Israel as do the true believers in Sunni and Shia Islam. That doesn’t mean Assad won’t make a lot of noise about destroying Israel to give himself legitimacy in the eyes of his Arab nationalist and Islamic supremacist citizens. And it doesn’t mean he won’t make an alliance of convenience with Iran to get protection and credibility for his Alawite regime as purported Shia Muslims while enabling Hezbollah to get weapons and Syria to have a hand in the affairs of Lebanon. It does make Assad less dangerous than another MB-dominated regime bent on involving itself militarily in a regional war against Israel.
