Yesh Atid is the big story of the elections

Nobody called it though there were reports that he was gaining strength this week/

I am too tired to report on Lapid’s victory to night.  I’ll leave that you my readers to talk about the results.

34 Comments to Yesh Atid is the big story of the elections

    1. NormanF says:

Netanyahu may end up with 33-34 seats after all votes are counted.

His first phone call was to Lapid.

Shelly Yachimovich finished third and for that she’ll blame Tzipi Livni for playing the spoiler role and siphoning those six to seven seats away from Labor that might have made it the second largest party.

She won’t be making any concessions to Livni and even with Lapid, she can muster only 37 seats. So the Likud has the big edge and it should be thanking its lucky stars Livni made life difficult for Yachimovich.

    2. yamit82 says:

The People of Israel have spoken 80% reject BB and the Likud, ( Neto) without Lieberman. That is not a mandate for anything except political manipulation in order to stay in power for as long as possible.

    3. Sam Goldblatt says:

Bibi got too big for his britches. Lapid calls him “The Oaf” in private. Bibi may be working at McDonald’s tomorrow.

    4. yamit82 says:

Gimple lost Bayit Ha Yehudi 3 mandates to Lapid.

50% of the votes to Lapid identify with the Israeli political right.

    5. NormanF says:

Lapid is not a fan of the Arabs.

The exit polls were skewed to the Left and my first call is turning out to be correct as the real votes come in.

The national camp may get 64-66 seats like last time.

Apparently, the Likud’s voters waited til the end of the day and voted after the Left did.

Netanyahu’s scare-mongering may have shaken up complacent voters to show up after all at polls.

    6. drjb says:

Looks like Otzma didn’t pass the electoral threshold and are out.

Bibi’s arrogance and greed cost his party a few seats. He’ll have a weaker coalition. He made a few mistakes during the campaign. First and foremost, his incessant attacks on Bennett, that actually helped out Lapid, who may yet prove to everyone that he’s full of hot air and nothing more. Bibi should have attacked Shas and UTJ, because all israelis love it when you criticize the Haredim. He should have attacked Tzipi and Shelly on their economic record. He did none of the above.
So, now we’re likely to end up with a more Left leaning coalition than before. Bayt is out of the coalition and largely irrelevant, just like Feiglin predicted. Bennett misplayed the entire campaign. He became Bibi II by expressing his constant support for Bibi even in the face of direct attacks against him and his party. He proved to everyone that he’s a rookie.

The ONLY one who played his cards right, did not bend or compromise on his opinions and values was……. Feiglin!!! He’s in the Knesset and now, finally, we’ll see what he’s capable of.

Hold your criticism for now. Give Feiglin a chance, because quite frankly, he’s better than most of the other puppets in the government.

I don’t expect that to happen with the uptick of Likud seats. Netanyahu is the King Of Israel. He has no real rivals on the horizon.

I agree with you. With the Likud at 33-34 seats, there aren’t a lot of Arab state supporters in the Likud. The election is a Goldilocks result. People wanted Netanyahu at the helm but didn’t want to give him a blank check.

If they succeed then Rothschild not only held on to control over the US,but regained control over Israel.

You’re one of the conspiracists who believe the Jews control the world. If only they did, life would be much easier for them!

I believe the US,Britain, the EU and Israel are controlled by a group of mostly Bankers, headed by the Rothschild’s.
Some of them are Jews, most of their influential slaves aren’t.
These Bankers made political Zionism viable for those who bought into the story,in 1897.
Millions of Jews had to pay the price for this non-Jewish ideology, including most of my family,in ww2.
This time the Bankers go for the main prize,One World Order.
They will have no problems sacrificing Israel and Judaism worldwide,to obtain that goal.
They did it 70 years ago,and again there are Jews buying into the lie.
My goal is to stop that.

By destroying Israel? Its an anti-Semite’s wet dream. Zionism never sacrificed the Jews or Israel. The world did that and ever since Jews have been trying to fight it off.

      Stupid Jews.

That is precisely the secret behind Lapid’s appeal. He stood for nothing. And the same is true of the other Seinfeldian parties running in the election, Labor and HaTnua. And Kadima scraped in because it too, stood for nothing. The Likud is hardly any different.

Seinfeld AKA Netanyahu will soon assemble another “nothing” coalition. The election was not about ideology or any life or death issues.

    16. Stan Revich says:

How did a Marxist like NormanF slither into this blog? These philosophical Neaderthals just can’t rid their little brains of their eternal bogeyman — the BANKERS! I pity the poor guy. He must see Rothchilds in his breakfast bowl in the morning; in his rear window when he drives to work; at his supper table sitting to his left; and at bedtime in his ever-repeating nightmares. If he wasn’t so fossilized in time I might have room in my heart for some pity. But I do not. Marxists are master manipulators with only one goal in mind — the destruction of freedom and the triumph of a totalitarian Marxist state where these pseudo-intelllectual will rule with the benign compassion of a Stalin.
Get this man out of here.

    17. Nigel Shaw says:

That would be ShachalNur – not NormanF. Norman responded to Shachal, the latter being a conspiracy freak in everything.

      Say you’re sorry. :)

    19. Laura says:

I warned that Obama operatives would rig the elections as they did here. However they couldn’t go as far as they wanted without raising suspicions. So Bibi was allowed to win but put in a weakened position.

Marxism,Nazism,Zionism ,all Rothschild banker inventions and operations.
People ignorant of these facts are not only blind ,but slaves.
You’ll be slaughtered by the Bankers, just like European Jewry in ww2.

    21. shachalnur says:

      @Norman F,

      The other way around,
Rothschild Bankers are destroying Israel,on their way to a New World Order.
They killed millions of Jews in ww2,to create One Europe(European union),World Government(The UN)and create the state of Israel.

I have had a recent discussion with him, and i haven’t been very kind. Now that i found out where the Bankers came from to occupy his mind, i wasn’t happy with having spoken the way i did, hence my beau geste – to relax my own mind.

      Not exactly historically accurate.

Most of the Jews died because they opposed Zionism or their communal leaders were, who influenced the rest. It’s an historical fact that of those few Jews who managed to reach Palestine before the British closed the windows and locked the doors survived the war unscathed. Many German Jews who read the tea leaves correctly made it out in time and beat the British white paper. The Irony is that most of those German Jews were not just not Zionists, but anti Zionists and in many cases anti Jewish. It was those anti Zionist anti Jewish State Jews, who inherited the Jewish State they opposed and have worked ever since to destroy the country ever since. They became our enlightened cosmopolitan elites who strive for the political social and cultural internationalization of Israel.

In hindsight, the Zionists were correct and the dead Jews wrong. No doubt about it.

I am having a discussion with the contemporary cosmopolitan elites for the past two days in Mondo (if you can call discussion having 14 huge comments in moderation, not being sure which will make it through).

Is the reason these German Jews opposed Zionism that they didn’t want to outrage their compatriots by showing that they support Jews showing signs of full independence in attitude?

      The Transfer (Haavara) Agreement 1933-1939

HAAVARA, a company for the transfer of Jewish property from Nazi Germany to Palestine. The Trust and Transfer Office Haavara Ltd., was established in Tel Aviv, following an agreement with the German government in August 1933, to facilitate the emigration of Jews to Palestine by allowing the transfer of their capital in the form of German export goods. The Haavara Agreement is an instance where the question of Jewish rights, Zionist needs and individual rescue were in deep tension. Jewish organizations outside of Germany had declared a boycott against German goods and hoped to delegitimate the Nazi regime. The Zionists saw this agreement as a way of attracting Jews to Palestine and thus rescuing them from the Nazi universe even if that meant cooperation with Hitler. For a time the Nazi program of making Germany Judenrein and the Zionist policy of seeking olim coincided. The amounts to be transferred were paid by prospective emigrants into the account of a Jewish trust company (PALTREU – Palestina Treuhandstelle zur Beratung deutscher Juden) in Germany and used for the purchase of goods, which the Haavara then sold in Palestine. The proceeds, in Palestine currency, were paid to the emigrants living in Palestine. The rate of exchange was adjusted from time to time by the Haavara according to the disagio, necessitated by the subsidy which the Haavara granted the Palestinian importers, to make up for the steadily deteriorating value of the Reich mark, so the German goods could compete with other imports. The ensuing disagio, borne by the emigrants, accordingly increased from 6% in 1934 to 50% in 1938. The major part of the transfer proceeds provided the 1,000 Palestine Pounds (then $4,990) necessary for a “capitalist” immigration certificate of the Mandatory administration, but also for other categories of immigration, such as Youth Aliyah, students, and artisans as well as for the transfer of public funds. The transfer weakened the boycott of German goods declared by many Jewish organizations around the world, and thus met with considerable opposition. The controversy was settled at the Zionist Congress in Lucerne (1935) which decided by a vast majority in favor of the transfer and placed the Haavara under the supervision of the *Jewish Agency. The Zionists sought to attract immigrants to Palestine, most especially the affluent German Jewish immigrants and the Germans sought to get rid of their Jews, increase their exports and a propaganda victory by dividing the Jews regarding the boycott. The Haavara continued to function until World War II, in spite of vigorous attempts by the Nazi Party to stop or curtail its activities. The total transfer amounted to LP 8,100,000 (Palestine Pounds; then $40,419,000) including LP 2,600,000 (then $13,774,000) provided by the German Reichsbank in coordination with Haavara. The Haavara transfer was a major factor in making possible the immigration of approximately 60,000 German Jews to Palestine in the years 1933–1939, and together with the money invested by the immigrants themselves, in providing an incentive for the expansion of agricultural settlement and for general economic development. It also served as a model for a similar arrangement with the Czech government and the immigration of several thousand Jews on the eve of World War II.

Wow, that was a great link. I will start following this blog. So, the present-day divide in Israel is not at all different from the divide in Greece and, it seems to me, in all the western countries. It stems from the clash between two broad types of personalities, and cannot be better expressed than by the picture in your link (i think it’s me, or dweller, on the right? :P).
The thing is that the rest of us (i mean the world) have the luxury to fight it over with our own without risking annihilation of our populations. Israel doesn’t have that luxury.
That’s a very interesting topic, i will be coming back to it.

      HAAVARA,

I haven’t seen it yet, but your summary was very useful. It might take some time though, because i start some online courses in Philosophy in the university of Edinburgh (through the Coursera program, it’s for free). I think i found my vocation for Israel advocacy: detailed and layman’s-level (that is, clear and accessible) philosophical argument that refutes fallacies in ethical reasoning against Israel.

Also a good overview of modern Israel is the excellent book THE JEWISH STATE – The Struggle for Israel’s Soul by Yoram Hazony. It is nothing less than shocking. My copy is heavily underlined and with notes all over the margins, much of it serial exclamation marks and OMGs. It’s emotionally very hard to read this book. ~~~~~ You may want to check page 48 where it describes the way in which the Knesset voted extraordinary powers for the Supreme Court in 1992. Those laws were passed 32-31 votes and 23-0 votes out of 120 members. And page 282 where the much revered Martin Buber and his academic friends pleaded the state to commute Adolf Eichmann’s capital punishment for a life sentence of agricultural work in a kibbutz instead!!!

I will gradually come to seek more diverse info on Israel, such as the one you proposed. I had to start from scratch two years ago, and i was mainly interested in arguments against false accusations, so i was filtering all Israel-related info based on whether it had value as a talking point against anti-Israel slanders (time-consuming task, reading the million newsletters and organizing the bookmarks by appropriate tags so as to have the links rapidly available any time). I still do, but i have started developing a taste for broader perspective. Thanks for the tip on the book.
